Rose Cottage property in St Ives, Cornwall
26 Fore Street Interior

Having bought a derelict listed two bedroom maisonette in the heart of St Ives, our private client turned to Underwild Design & Development to help transform this tired old property into two highly contemporary one bedroom apartments.

The plan was to create two ultra modern apartments, the first consisting of an open plan living/dining area, double bedroom and bathroom, the other being more of a studio apartment which, although small, would be built to make best use of the space available and consisted of a sleeping platform being constructed above the main living area and also had a small outdoor seating area to allow al fresco dining.

Structurally, the property required the insertion of large exposed roof timbers to add the required support. Also, due to it's listed building status, very strict building guidelines had to be adhered to during the refurbishment making sure the development was carried out in a sympathetic manner and ensuring the original character of the building was not eroded.

Throughout the project there was an overriding emphasis on attention to detail.  Both flats were given real oak wood flooring throughout, state of the art kitchens, modern lighting and brand new fixtures and fittings throughout.

The 3-month development was completed on time and within budget.  The end result was two extremely modern, easy living apartments right in the heart of St Ives with easy access to all of the amenities on offer.

FEATURES OF THE BUILD

  • Creation of two ultra modern open plan contemporary living areas from a derelict listed building
  • Insertion of strengthened exposed roof timbers
  • Creation of two separate living spaces from what was originally one property

A testament to the quality of this build was the immediate sale of both properties when they went onto the open market upon completion.
