The directors of a St Ives-based construction company are celebrating after winning a contract to turn a former hotel into a series of luxury apartments.
Underwild Design and Development says the contract is the biggest of its history and will take approximately 12 months to complete with a number of significant build challenges, the main one of which is the retention of the building faade whilst the remainder of the structure is effectively demolished behind it.
The company had to compete in a competitive tender process before being named, by South West Peninsular Properties, as principal contractor for the project.
Managing Director of Underwild, Daniel Potter said: We are delighted to have won such a huge contract over our competitors and we are looking forward to a working on what is a flagship project which has a series of technical and environmental challenges.
The project brief will include the design and erection of an internal scaffold superstructure prior to demolition , a piece by piece full demolition of the existing structure, including granite cob walls, the retention of the front faade of the building throughout the project and the supporting of party wall to ensure the integrity of the neighbouring properties, before the creation from the ground up of a number of luxury apartments.
